Massage & Alternative Techniques
Swedish massage reduces stress by incorporating techniques such as effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, friction, and vibration to soothe muscles and relieve tension. Typically used on the whole body, this type of massage can also be used to target problem areas.
Utilizing your body’s nervous system to facilitate improved relaxation and range of motion, Fit Naturopathic practitioners use your bodies ability to contract and release, while a stretch is applied to achieve improved range of motion, decreasing pain and pulling sensations on the veretbra or joints of the body which can then require a spinal manipulation.
Similar to Swedish massage, this technique utilizes deeper pressure. It targets the deepest layers of muscle, tendons, and fascia and is beneficial for releasing chronic muscle tension.
A trigger point is an area of tension within a muscle often referred to as a knot, which can cause significant pain and even radiate to other areas of the body when pressure is applied. Through a series of isolated pressure and release, along with deep breathing done by the recipient, trigger point therapy can help to alleviate pain and release constricted muscles. A series of massages can help to relieve chronic patterns of tightness.
This light hands-on technique can be used for a wide variety of ailments including nausea, headaches, sinus congestion, and emotional distress, or for general relaxation. It works to balance cerebral spinal fluid and release tension of the bones and connective tissue within the cranium, vertebral column, and sacrum. Many people find that it can also serve to promote the cultivation of internal guidance and meditation.
Use of direct or indirect techniques to release organs, smooth restrictions of the fascia, and break up adhesions within the abdominal, thoracic, or pelvic cavity. This therapy can be useful for acid reflux, post-surgical adhesions, urinary incontinence, along with releasing emotional patterns we hold in our body and organs.
“Water therapy” used to treat physical injury or illness by immersion of all or part of the body in water, or by the application of water soaked towels to a body part. The use of hot or cold water in these applications promotes wound healing, helps to relieve pain, boosts the immune system, calms the nervous system, and promotes physical well-being.
